"Your children are precious...and we think so too!"

Ethos/Mission Statement

“BarBar is a happy, small, safe and secure environment where every child is valued and treated as an individual. The emphasis is to encourage confidence, effort, kindness and humour, whilst educating and preparing children for school life.”

BarBar  was set up by two friends who met in 1992 whilst both Childminding and running Girl Guide Units within the Stroud area. Carol Barker and Sandra Barton have remained good friends ever since then and have wanted to establish their own Nursery for some years but until the premises at The Rosary School became available, they were unable to realise a joint dream.

The name BarBar comes from both their surnames being Barker and Barton and the wings of the butterfly in flight on the logo signify a unity of friendship and the freedom to explore, and this is carried forward into the settings for the children.

Both Carol and Sandra consider that all of their nurseries exist because parents and children need them and not the other way around. Parents are encourged to have a visit of the setting either with or without their children. This allows for staff to answer any questions or queries that they may have- after all you will be trusting us with your most valuable possession!  We use this time too to understand your aspirations for your child whilst they are with us. We then discuss how you want to settle your child in at BarBar and tailor this to suit individual families- after all, every child is unique. Some parents are happy to leave their child and others prefer to bring their children in for a few sessions and stay and play and observe them before heading off to work! We will tell you that "you know your child best" and as such we will be guided by you.

BarBar Nursery at The Rosary School is a full day care setting, but parents/guardians have many options of child care for their children. Full day care from 8.00am to 6.00pm is available for children from 2 years of age, but if you work part-time or want a shorter care session for your child then this is available too.

BarBar also has an on site before school club and an after school club for children from 3 years of age, enabling children to play with their peers, school age siblings and integrate across the age ranges.  BarBar  also offer their Out Of School Club services to children from many other local schools including Woodchester, Rodborough, Stroud Valley, Uplands and The Gastrells Schools-others considered- please ask

In October 2008 Carol and Sandra purchased the premisies formerly known as "Beanstalk Nursery" from its owner Clare King. They are now offering BarBar Nursery at Stratford Park in Stroud (next to the Leisure Centre). This setting provides all year care for children from birth along with a pre-school led by a graduate Early Years Professional. The setting also offers  a School Holiday Play Scheme for children up to the age of 11 years.

In September 2010 Carol and Sandra set up BarBar Nursery number three at Kingsway Community Centre in Quedgeley. This setting is managed by an experienced child care professional with an Early Years Foundation Degree. Here Bev Orgee is supported by three Level 3 staff members and an apprentice. Due to the rapidly filled spaces at BarBar Nursery @ Kingsway, Carol and Sandra have now  expanded again-  to totally refurbished purpose designed premises with large gardens on Kingsway Business Park.

Holiday Play Schemes

At both of our Holiday Play schemes in Stroud and Kingsway, we firmly believe that the children need to be happy and relaxed as they usually join us because their parents are having to go to work!

The children plan their own activities with support and guidance from our experienced staff teams.  We allow them to choose from a wide selection of things on offer or to spend time relaxing with their friends. They enjoy arts and crafts, hama beads, cooking, painting, sports, rounders, races etc. We take them out on visits within the locality - ten pin bowling, roller skating, swimming, walking, table tennis, tennis, museum in the park, Stratford Park, cinema and sometimes further afield to Cattle Country, Wookey Hole or similar places.

If you have any suggestions for more activities that we could do with your child or your child has a particular interest that we could cater for, please let us know and we will try to accommodate you!
