Learning Through Play

BarBar Nursery Ltd firmly believe that children learn best by playing and we use the practice guidance Early Years Foundation Stage to plan and provide a range of play activities to help our children progress in each of the areas of learning and development:

There are three prime areas of learning:

  • C&L-communication and language-speaking & listening
  • PD-physical development-active and interactive opportunities, co-ordination, control and movement, healthy choices relating to food
  • PSE-personal social and emotional development-positive sense of self and others, social skills, manage feelings, understand appropriate behaviour in groups, have confidence in own abilities

There are four specific areas of learning

  • LIT-literacy-linking sounds and letters, begin to read and write,- books, poems, magazines,
  • M-mathematics- counting, use of numbers, calculating, shapes, space and measure
  • UW-understanding the world- physical world, community, exploration, people places, technology, ICT
  • EA&D-expressive arts and design- media and materials, sharing thoughts, ideas and feelings through art, music, dance, movement, role play and design technology

Our educational programmes cover all seven of these areas above

We consider the individual needs, interests and stages of every child

Each area of learning is planned for through purposeful play

Our plans reflect the different ways in which children learn (playing and exploring/active learning/creating and thinking critically)

Key persons and your child

BarBar Nursery Ltd uses a key person approach. This means that each member of our nursery teachers has a group of children for whom he/she is particularly responsible. Your child’s key person will be the person who works with you to make sure that what we provide is right for your child’s particular needs and interests. When your child first starts at the setting the nursery teacher will help your child to settle, and throughout your child’s time at the setting, she will help your child to benefit from the setting’s activities. Each key person is supported by a buddy- who acts as the key person in their absence or for collaboration of ideas.

We Value Your Children’s Needs
